Faces

Jeff Orchard + Mark Ketchen

I think my grandmother took this picture, or possibly my brother, it was  probably 1963 or 64. Mark and I finally raked enough blueberries to buy wetsuits. This was in March, off our dock. It was snowing hard. We swam in the only open water on the lake due to the current at the dam. Mark....we  did swim out to the edge of the ice and back, right? I think it halfway  shows up through the snow and fog just over your head. Mark on the right, me on the left, we are both coming out of the water, obviously darn cold. Note  my high tech winter diving gloves, 100% cotton, wrapped in a baggie. I remember mostly that my chin was so numb from the cold that I had a hard time keeping the  snorkel in my mouth.
Sorry about the stain. Probably blueberry.
